Advisor Connect is a monthly event designed to support your ongoing professional development in family business advising, while building connections with fellow FBA Advisor Members across multiple disciplines.

Each event centres on a key theme which shapes the speakers, discussions, and learnings throughout the session. It’s an opportunity to deepen your understanding of others’ expertise, share insights, and uncover collaborative opportunities that will benefit you and the family businesses you support.

This hybrid event will be held in-person at Spry Roughley, Parramatta and also online. To join online the link will be provided when you register.

Topic:  When the keys are gone: What advisers need to know when a business owner is suddenly unavailable.

When a business owner dies, becomes incapacitated or is suddenly unavailable, families are left responsible for a trading business they don't fully understand most of the time. Drawing from her own lived experience of inheriting her father's business overnight, Daiana explores the financial and commercial gap that exists even in well-advised estates, and how advisers can better support families through it.

Three key takeaways:

1. Legal authority and commercial clarity are two different problems, and families need both to navigate a business transition well.

2. Owner dependency is not just a succession planning risk, it is a financial and commercial risk that affects families at the worst possible moment

3. Every family business client carries this gap, at varying degrees but 100% of them. The financial and commercial picture of the business is as important as the legal picture. Recognising that gap early, before something happens, is what separates reactive advice from genuinely protective advice.
